D201904 – Platform for the study of differentiation and cell dynamics during normal and pathological erythropoiesis

Scientific leader
Dr. Wassim El Nemer

Erythropoiesis is the process of differentiation that results in the production of red blood cells from hematopoietic stem cells. Erythropoiesis is altered in several human pathologies causing abnormalities in the circulating blood. Terminal erythroid differentiation is a very dynamic process, characterized by important structural and morphological changes. The project aims to explore this dynamic through know-how and advanced equipment, allowing to work on synchronized cell populations and to visualize, in real time, cell divisions, erythroblast enucleation and reticulocyte maturation. The erythropoiesis analyze with these new tools, will contribute to a better understanding of the pathophysiological processes that cause cell dysfunctions and clinical manifestations in order to adapt and optimize therapeutic approaches.
